Design competition for Alvar Aalto Music & Art Center

Jyväskylä, Finland

  • PROGRAM:

Alteration of an old building designed by Aalto and the addition of a Concert hall to create a 100,000 sq.ft. world-class art and music facility with a 1,200 seating capacity. (Competition, in cooperation with V. Tripolsky and A. Okun)

  • CONCEPT:

A continuous ramp through the existing building is to serve as the museum’s exposition. Also, an intentionally simplified glass addition was made to articulate the existing old-fashioned façade as a contrast to the egg-shaped volume of the new concert hall.
